How to Reset Your Internet Connection

There are several ways to reset your internet connection. This article will show you how you can reset your internet connection if you ever have connection issues with services such SAGE300, VPN, or other internet related applications.

Disconnecting from Wi-Fi

To disconnect from Wi-Fi in Windows 10, simply click the Wi-Fi icon  on the system tray on the bottom right, then click on the blue square that says "Wi-Fi" on it. The square will turn grey, but wait 10 seconds, then click it again to turn it back to blue. Your Wi-Fi should then reconnect automatically.

Unplugging Ethernet Cable

If you have a wired ethernet cable connected to your computer or your docking station, simply unplugging that cable, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging the cable back in will reset your internet connection.

Resetting your Internet Modem or Router

In extreme cases, you may need to reset your router or internet modem in your household. Sometimes if your power goes out, your modem/router can be stuck in a weird state. Other times your ISP pushes firmware updates or make changes to their equipment and causes it to be stuck in a weird state. By powering down your modem, you can refresh the connection. It is recommended to power down your modem/router, wait 10 seconds, then power it back up.

Automatic Reset Script

This simplest way to reset/refresh your internet connection is to run this script called Renew_IP.bat (Windows 10 only). This script releases your current connection to your Wi-Fi or ethernet adapter and attempts to reconnect it.

To run the script, download the attached file on the bottom of this page, and click to run it.

You will see a black window appear briefly and then close. This process may take a couple seconds depending on the machine. If you see this screen below, click on More info and then Run anyway.
